October Reflections: Grounding, Growth, and Embracing Abundance

As we step into November, I find myself looking back on October with a sense of gratitude and reflection. This past month has been a mix of grounding moments, inspiring events, and a gentle reminder to prioritise my own self-care—even when things get busy. I didn’t spend as much time in the garden as I’d hoped, but the time I did manage to sneak in was soothing. There’s just something about getting my hands in the soil that brings a special kind of calm.

October was full of events that left me feeling recharged and inspired. These experiences nudged me to focus on filling my own cup because as much as I love what I do, my work takes a lot of energy. Both my roles in meditation and as a nurse require so much presence, and I’ve realised how important it is to take time to nurture myself. Self-care isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity for me to keep showing up fully for those I serve.

Today also marks Halloween, which most of us recognise through its commercial lens—the costumes, “candy”, and playful spookiness. But what I truly love is the ritual, the occasion to pause, remember, and acknowledge the cycles of life. At its heart, Halloween holds so much more than the surface celebrations. It connects us to centuries-old traditions that honour the seasons and the rhythms of life lived closely with the land.

At this time of the year, here in the Southern Hemisphere, we technically should celebrate Beltane (Easter), welcoming spring’s fire, fertility, and growth as nature renews itself around us. Yet, I also feel drawn to Samhain, a day for reflection and remembrance celebrated by our friends in the Northern Hemisphere. Halloween’s roots invite us to honour those who have passed, creating a moment to stop, light a candle, and connect with their memory. We don’t have to buy into the flashy aspects of the holiday to embrace its essence. Maybe you might like to light a candle today and sit for a moment in this energy, honouring the cycles that these traditions represent—reminders of life’s beauty, resilience, and the natural rhythms we’re all part of.

The end of the year always brings a certain kind of energy, and with November approaching, there’s excitement in the air. My daughter’s dance concert is around the corner, which is always a beautiful (and busy!) time for us. As a former dancer myself, I cherish these moments—dance is such a powerful form of expression and connection. I think it’s something everyone should try regularly, even if just for fun. It doesn’t have to be perfect; it’s all about letting the body move and allowing energy to flow.

In October, the theme of our meditation classes was all about grounding, and as we step into November, we’re shifting towards Gratitude and Abundance. This theme feels perfectly aligned with the season, especially as we begin to reflect on the past year. I’m excited to incorporate meditations like Loving-Kindness and soft, self-compassionate practices that help cultivate gratitude. There’s something so nourishing about focusing on abundance, both within ourselves and in our daily lives, and I’m looking forward to guiding others through these practices.

I also took a brave step this month by sharing “myself” on Instagram. It was a big moment for me, putting myself out there. It’s been a week since that post, and while I haven’t shared more just yet, I’m hoping to be more active on both Instagram and Facebook. If you’re not following me there yet, I’d love for you to join me—I’ll be sharing little insights, updates, and hopefully a bit of inspiration that connects with you, wherever you are on your journey.

October has been a month of growth, grounding, and small steps forward. As we move into November, I hope to carry this sense of gratitude and abundance with me, and I invite you to do the same. Here’s to finding more moments of peace, a touch of self-compassion, and maybe even a few dances along the way. 🌸
